Privacy policy
Last updated October 20, 2026
Find the AI exists to help people tell what's real. That only works if you can trust us with what you check. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it, in plain language.
The short version
- We don't keep your files. Files go to our own servers over an encrypted connection, sit in a temporary file only while the check runs, then are deleted as soon as the check finishes. For links we fetch the public post, check it, then delete our copy.
- We don't use third-party AI APIs to check your file, and we don't train models on what you upload.
- We don't sell your data. Ever.
What we collect
- Reports. When a check finishes we save a report: the verdict, the scores, what we found in the file, the duration, the model version, and a few small preview images. For link checks we also store the link, and the title and uploader name the platform shows publicly. Anyone with a report's link can open it, and its owner can delete it.
- Your email, if you subscribe to The Fake Report, join a waitlist or unlock extra free checks.
- Feedback you choose to give on a verdict.
- Technical data. Your IP address and an anonymous cookie (
dt_cid) are used to apply daily free limits; a signed cookie (dt_member) remembers that you unlocked more checks. If product analytics are enabled, we record anonymous usage events (for example, “scan completed”) without your file, file names or exact scores. - On your device only: your check history and Daily progress are kept in your browser's local storage. We never see them.
How long we keep it
- Files: deleted as soon as the check finishes.
- Reports: until you delete them (from the report page or your history), or we retire inactive reports.
- Email: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- Rate-limit counters: reset daily.
Your choices
- Delete any report you created from its page, and the link stops working for everyone.
- Clear your on-device history from the Your checks page.
- Unsubscribe from any email in one click.
- Ask for a copy or deletion of your data at privacy@findtheai.app.
Who else is involved
We use a small number of service providers to run Find the AI: hosting, email delivery and, if enabled, privacy- friendly analytics. They process data only on our instructions.
Children
Find the AI isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy we'll update the date above, and tell subscribers about material changes. Questions: privacy@findtheai.app.
