AI image detector
Was this photo made by AI?
Drop in a photo or paste a link. We read what the file says about itself, then a model trained on real and generated images looks at the picture.
- Free, no sign-up
- We don't keep your files
- Most checks finish in under a minute
What the file says
Many image generators label what they make. Some sign it with Content Credentials, a tamper-evident record of which tool made it. Others write an AI label into the file, and AI services in China must. Stable Diffusion and ComfyUI often save their settings in the image.
When we find a signed record we show it as proof, with who signed it. An unsigned label counts as a strong clue, because anyone could add one. Camera details count as a clue too, never as proof.
What the picture shows
Most images reach you without any of that: screenshots and social apps strip it. So an AI model looks at the picture itself. We use Community Forensics, an open-source model from university researchers (MIT license), and we test and tune it on photos from today's generators and today's phones.
We set our cut-offs so a real phone photo rarely reads as AI. That makes us careful: when the signal is weak, you'll see Inconclusive rather than a guess.
Where it struggles
Heavily compressed or resized copies, small images and screenshots of screenshots carry less signal. A photo that was real but edited with AI tools (an object removed, a sky replaced) can read either way. Check the highest-quality copy you can find, and pair the result with where the photo came from.

Is this AI image detector free?
Yes. You get free checks every day without signing up. Pro adds more checks for people who check things every day.
Which AI image generators can it spot?
The model is tested on images from current generators, including Midjourney, ChatGPT and DALL-E, Google's Imagen and Gemini models, Flux, Ideogram, Recraft, Seedream and Stable Diffusion. Some are harder than others, and we say Inconclusive when it isn't clear.
Do you keep my photo?
No. It's checked on our own servers and deleted when the check ends. Reports keep the verdict and a small preview, never your file.
Can it prove a photo is real?
No detector can. A low score means we found no sign of AI, not that nothing was changed. Context matters too: a real photo can still be old, from somewhere else, or cut out of context.
