What an Instagram link can tell us

A Reel you watch on Instagram has usually been re-uploaded, which removes most of the records AI tools write into their files, so for Reels the picture itself does most of the work. If a file still carries a signed record, we show it as proof, with who signed it.

Platforms also put their own AI labels on some posts: look for one on the post itself. Many AI posts still go unlabeled.

What the picture shows

Our models look at how the video moves across frames and at single frames, and the timeline shows where it looks most generated. They are calibrated on our own test set of real and AI clips, so a real phone video rarely reads as AI.

When the evidence is mixed we say Inconclusive, rather than rounding it up or down.

Things to check yourself

Pause on hands, teeth and any text on signs, and watch for details that change from shot to shot. Look at the account too: AI accounts often post the same kind of clip many times a day.

And search for the event in the news: if something that big happened, someone else filmed it too.

Do I need an Instagram account?

No. Paste the link of a public Reel. We fetch the video, check it, then delete our copy; only the report is kept.

Can it check an Instagram photo post?

Not from the link yet: links are fetched as video. Save the photo and upload it instead, and the image model checks it.

Why is my Reel's result Inconclusive?

Compression weakens the signal, and some AI video models are harder to spot than others. Inconclusive means the evidence is mixed, and we won't round it up or down.
