What a YouTube link can tell us

When a file still carries a signed record from the tool that made it, we show it as proof, with who signed it. Downloads and re-uploads usually lose those records, so for most links the picture itself does most of the work.

Chinese AI video services such as Kling, Vidu, Wan and Hailuo must label what they make, and we read those labels too.

What the picture shows

Two open-source models look at the video: cakelens at how it moves across frames, and Community Forensics at single frames. Their scores are combined and calibrated on our own test set of real and AI clips.

The timeline under the verdict shows where it looks most generated. When the evidence is mixed we say Inconclusive.

Where it struggles, and what else to check

Re-uploads, screen recordings, small or very dark videos and heavy compression weaken the signal, and the newest video models are the hardest. A Short leaves less footage to go on than a long upload.

So check the channel as well: when it joined, what else it posts, and whether other people filmed the same thing. A low score means we found no sign of AI, not that nothing was changed.

Can I check a YouTube video without downloading it?

Yes. Paste the link and we fetch the public video and check it. TikTok, Instagram, X, Facebook, Reddit, Threads, Vimeo, Bluesky and a few more work the same way.

Does it work for YouTube Shorts?

Yes. A Short is a public link like any other YouTube video. It is short, so there is less to go on, and Inconclusive is more likely.

Why is my result Inconclusive?

Re-uploads and compression weaken the signal, and some AI video models are harder to spot than others. Inconclusive means the evidence is mixed, and we won't round it up or down.
