Content Credentials checker

Does this file carry Content Credentials?

Upload a photo or video. We read any Content Credentials record in the file, check its signature, and show who signed it, so you can see what the file claims about itself.

What Content Credentials are

Content Credentials, built on the C2PA standard, is a tamper-evident record written into the file when a tool creates or edits it: which tool made it, and what was done to it. Camera makers, phone makers and image editors are starting to sign what they produce.

We read the manifest and check its signature. When the signature verifies and the signer is on the C2PA trust lists, that is real proof about how the file was made, and we show it as such.

What a signed record proves

A verified, signed record tells you the file's own claims come from a known signer and were not altered after signing. That is strong, checkable evidence about provenance.

A record only proves what it says. It does not prove the picture itself is real: a signed, edited photo can still contain a generated subject. We show the credentials and the picture verdict separately, so you can weigh both.

When a file has no credentials

Most photos and videos in circulation carry no Content Credentials at all, and screenshots, downloads and re-uploads strip what was there. No credentials found means exactly that: we could not find a record, which says nothing about whether the picture is AI.

When there is no signed record, the picture itself is what we judge, with the same honest limits as any other check.

More on what we check, where it can go wrong and what happens to your file: how it works.

Can it verify any file?

It can read and check the signature of any file that carries a Content Credentials (C2PA) record. Most files do not, and a missing record means nothing about whether the image is real.

What is the difference between a label and a signature?

An AI label is a plain tag anyone could add; it is a strong clue, not proof. A signed, verified Content Credentials record comes from a known signer and is tamper-evident, which is real proof about the file's claims.

How accurate is it?

The credential check is exact: it either verifies a signature or does not. The separate picture verdict has its own test results, listed by generator on the accuracy page. See the test results
