Screenshot AI checker

Is this screenshot AI?

Upload a screenshot and see whether the image in it looks AI-made, with the reasons. A screenshot strips the file metadata, so the picture has to do the work, and we say where that leaves less signal.

Why screenshots are harder

A screenshot is a fresh picture of what was on screen. It throws away the original file labels, camera details and signed records, and it usually re-compresses the image, which blurs the fine detail a model looks for.

So for a screenshot, the picture is what we judge, and the evidence is weaker than for the original file. That is a real limit, and we show it rather than hide it.

What we can still tell

The picture itself still carries the look of a generator: the smooth shading, the clean edges, the small tells in hands, text and reflections. A model trained on real and generated images reads those, and we show the verdict with the reasons.

When the signal is weak, you see Inconclusive. For a screenshot that is common, and it is the honest answer rather than a coin flip dressed up as certainty.

When the original file is better

If you can get the original image file, check that instead. It may carry a signed Content Credentials record, an AI label or generator settings, which is far clearer evidence than any guess about the pixels.

A screenshot is still worth checking when the original is not available, which is most of the time on social apps and chat.

Does a screenshot keep the metadata?

No. A screenshot is a new picture of the screen, so the original labels, camera details and signed records are gone, and the image is usually re-compressed.

Can it still check a screenshot?

Yes, with less signal. The picture itself is judged, and when the detail is weak you see Inconclusive rather than a confident guess.

Why is Inconclusive common for screenshots?

Because the metadata is gone and the re-compression blurs the fine detail a model reads. A weak signal gives an honest middle answer, not a guess.

What is better than a screenshot?

The original file. It may carry Content Credentials, an AI label or generator settings, which is clearer evidence than the pixels alone. How the check works
