Was this artwork made by AI?

Upload a painting, drawing or illustration and see whether AI made it, with the reasons. Art is harder to judge than a photo, and this page says where the test results do and do not cover it.

Why art is harder to judge

Our model was built and tuned for photographs, real and generated. A painting or drawing can share the smooth shading and clean edges that a model reads as AI, so a hand-made illustration can read as AI, and we say so rather than hide it.

When the signal is weak, you see Inconclusive rather than a confident guess. For art, that honest middle answer matters more than a bold verdict.

What the test results do and do not cover

The false-alarm rates we publish are measured on photographs: real photos from COCO, phone photos and our own phones. They are not an art rate, and this page does not claim they are.

The AI side of our test set does include art-adjacent generators: Midjourney, Ideogram, Recraft and Flux. So the catch rates for AI-made images come from real art-like work, even though the false-alarm rate is a photo rate.

What the file can tell us

Art files often carry their own evidence: a signed Content Credentials record, an AI label, or the settings a generator saved. When that is present, it is the clearest signal and we show it.

Most images arrive stripped, though, so the picture is what we judge. Treat the verdict as evidence, not proof, especially for art.

More on what we check, where it can go wrong and what happens to your file: how it works.

FAQ

Questions, answered honestly.

Something else? hello@findtheai.app

Does it work on paintings and drawings?

Yes, with a caveat. The model judges the picture, and art is harder than photos: a hand-made illustration can read as AI. When the signal is weak you see Inconclusive rather than a guess.

Is the false-alarm rate the same for art?

No. Our published false-alarm rates are measured on photographs, not paintings or drawings. The page says so instead of implying the same rate applies to art. See the test results

Does it catch AI art from Midjourney or Flux?

Those generators are in our AI-side test set, along with Ideogram and Recraft, so the catch rates come from real art-like work. See the accuracy page for the per-generator numbers. See the test results

Can I check where an artwork came from?

If the file carries Content Credentials, we read the record and check the signature, which is real proof about how it was made. Most files arrive stripped, so the picture is what we judge.
