Reddit image checker

Is this Reddit image AI?

Upload the picture from a Reddit post and see whether it looks AI-made, with the reasons. Reddit re-encodes uploads and strips the file records, so for most Reddit images the picture itself is what we judge.

Upload the image, not the link

A Reddit image post is a picture, and our link check fetches video, so for an image, upload the file itself: save the image from the post and drop it in. It is checked the same way as any photo.

If the Reddit post is a video, paste its link instead and we fetch it. Both paths end in the same verdict with the reasons.

Why Reddit images are hard to judge

Reddit re-encodes and re-hosts what people post, so the original AI label or signed record is usually gone, and the image is re-compressed. The picture is what is left to judge, and the detail a model reads is weaker than in the original file.

When the signal is weak, you see Inconclusive. For a re-compressed Reddit image that is common, and it is the honest answer rather than a coin flip dressed up as certainty.

When the original file is better

If the poster has the original image, check that instead. It may carry Content Credentials, an AI label or generator settings, which is far clearer evidence than a re-encoded copy.

A Reddit copy is still worth checking when the original is not available, which is most of the time.

Can I paste a Reddit link?

For a Reddit video, yes: paste the post link and we fetch it. For a Reddit image, upload the picture itself, because the link check fetches video and an image post has no video to fetch.

Does Reddit keep the AI metadata?

Usually not. Reddit re-encodes and re-hosts uploads, so AI labels and signed records are typically stripped, and the image is re-compressed.

Why is Inconclusive common for Reddit images?

Because the file records are gone and the re-compression blurs the detail a model reads. A weak signal gives an honest middle answer, not a guess.

How accurate is it?

Our test results page lists the catch rate for AI images and the false-alarm rate for real photos, with the number of files behind each. A re-encoded Reddit copy is not one of those clean files, so weigh the verdict with care. See the test results
